On the 16th of June, 2011 became in law the regulation EC 640/2009, stating the application rules of the Directive 2005/32 about the eco-design of electrical motors, defining the minimum efficiency standard of the motors itself.
Starting from the 1st of January, 2017 it will become in law the third step of the Regulation, stating that the minimum efficiency must shift from IE2 to IE3 for motors with nominal power from 0,75kW till 375kW (up today it is compulsory from 7,5 kW and above) at 2 ,4 and 6 poles.
As option, IE2 motors can still be used, upon specific customer request, only if they are intended to run under inverter control.
The field of application of the Regulation includes standard asynchronous three-phase motors, with squirrel-cage rotor 50/60Hz, single speed, continuous service S1, for safe area (not ATEX and not HT) is not including motors for PLATE-S and DUCT-S.
Motors with efficiency class IE2 that have been put into the market before the 31st of December, 2016 are allowed to be sold.
Motors intended exclusively for export outside the EC are allowed to be produced with efficiency class IE1 or IE2 even after the 1st of January, 2017.
As you may easily understand, IE3 motors have higher efficiencies, so they absorb less power and contribute significantly to the reduction of CO2 emission in the atmosphere, on the other hand are more expensive compared to correspondent IE2 models.
We hereby inform you also that the fan series ROOF-AM ATEX and ROOF-CM ATEX had some important changes (for example the cover is in metal and not anymore in ABS), following the indications of TÜV NORD that certified the conformity of our ATEX series. These modifications increased even more the safety of these roof fans, reaching the highest possible levels.
